Is My Fireplace Safe?

We've had fireplaces in our homes for years. Before there was heat from the furnace, we may have used fire to stay warm. But can that fireplace become toxic?

"Every log you light up emits a cocktail of chemicals" says Larry Brockman at the EPA. He's referring to real wood, how about those starter logs filled with even more chemicals?

Don't forget, if the chimney is filled with a lot of creosote, the amount of chemical exposure can be greater. My advice, since a warm fire can be very nice on a cold day, get this chimneys cleaned and checked out periodically to ensure for most smoke and toxins to travel up and out the chimney like they're supposed to.
