Fix Your Posture First!

Can My Chiropractor Really Fix My Slice?

The response: Technically Yes! Good news right. Really it depends if he can fix your posture.

So let’s say that the slice is mainly coming from a dropped, or low shoulder. For right handers it would be a low right shoulder for example. Your Doctor of Chiropractic is going to work on that low shoulder.

Now, let’s say that you are right-handed. That right shoulder drops, that club face opens up and you slice it and/or sky it too.

If you get the neck posture corrected, it will help correct that slice because your doctor will work to even up those shoulders.

As a big bonus, you get the golf swing corrected and lessen the amount of neck and arm pain; upper back pain if that was a problem and lower back pain too.

Neck Pain In The Car...

Have you ever noticed how taxi drivers very still. I have a family member who is driver and I must say he always seems so relaxed and in control behind the wheel. They don't even flinch. Whereas I'm turning my head, my body, even both to look here, there, blind spots, you name it.

I guess if you're a driver and you move around a lot, there's a greater chance you can throw something out of whack. More alarming is having a horrible posture that you do everyday in the car; your body will start to conform to that posture. You know, that posture where you have a low right shoulder, that arm on the gear shift, and the left shoulder high with that arm up on the steering wheel.

I'm A Stomach Sleeper? Is The Pillow For Me?

The special "V" design of the pillow helps to hold one on their back.  Stomach sleeping isn't great for your neck.  I do see patients that sleep on their stomach, and they will be in periodically with the complaint of neck pain.

We don't have the range of motion we once did when we were 2 years old.  You know how you see babies on their belly all the time... For adults however, it is difficult to maintain a 90 degree turn of the neck for most of the night.

This is why those individuals will present every so often with a neck issue.  The traction pillow actually will help one stay on their back.  It is for back or side sleepers and has helped many with this issue.

Can my Neck being off Contribute to my Cold?

Misalignment's in the Spine Create
Pressure Elsewhere in the Body
Short answer is Yes.  For your body to work 100%, you need to have good alignment.  If your neck hurts or you have a neck muscle strain it won't.  This tells me you may have a misaligned neck.

Misalignment's mean pressure on nerves.  Pressure there means that the body doesn't work at it's best.  All communication comes from the brain down.  Any interference whatsoever means a decrease in the body's function and your health.

Also, keep in mind there are nerves that go to the nose and sinuses, etc... Things you especially need working when recouping from a cold.

Get that neck back in alignment to start your healing process!

Do you take care of yourself as good as you could?...

We’ve talked in the past about the things you must do to improve and maintain your health. You must eat right, exercise, get proper rest, manage stress, and maintain your spine and nervous system.

If you sleep with a neck pillow you cover two out of the five. You can improve and maintain your spine as well as get a good night’s sleep.

The body does a lot of its maintenance and repair when it’s at rest WHEN YOU GO TO BED! A neck pillow has a neck roll that helps preserve and improve the natural C-curve of the neck. Your brain is the main control center and off of that stems the spinal cord and then off of that comes the nerves. You were created with curves in the spine that keep the cord relaxed and allow for the best flow of nervous system messages. Oh yeah, your brain and spinal cord are protected by bone, that’s how important they are! Just using a neck pillow like the Cervical Linear Traction Pillow will automatically improve your health.

Two Common Postural Misalignments Created by Forward Head Posture

One misalignment in one area of the spine can quickly lead to more postural misalignments throughout the spine. Your body will try to compensate for one misalignment with another. Find out how to stop this pattern from developing by keeping posture maintained during your daily life.

What happens when your head juts out forward? Well, your body always tries to keep your eyes even with the horizon. This typically can cause one of two things to happen.

#1- Your head protrudes forward then into slight extension. The neck shifts forward, but the head tilts upward. The body does this to keep those eyes even with the horizon.

#2- Your back extends. As you can imagine, tilting the lower back backwards also raises up the eyes. We typically call this a “sway-back.”

Your body can have a number of postural misalignment patterns because that whole spine works together. So, if one particular section goes out of position, the body will try to correct things by doing what it has to. The good news is that if we correct one area of the spine, it can help the rest. Start by correcting your neck posture by using the arc4life neck pillow.

Posture may Affect more than just your Health

Posture Plays A Role in How
Someone Acts
A study at Kellogg School of Management showed that posture plays a role in how someone acts. In this case, if someone acts more in charge or has more “power.”

There is no question posture has a psychological benefit besides a physical health benefit. We know that good posture means good spinal alignment. If we have this, then we have a body that works and functions normally. We have no pressure on nerves and joints have less stress.

Now, think about it- you’re feeling sad, down: what happens to your posture? You look down, your head shifts forward and down, your shoulders roll in. This posture is not so good for neck and back alignment, is it? Now you’re feeling happy: you just won a raffle (which never happens, you never win anything). You’re happy, you feel really good. Look at your posture now, it’s good: your head is up, you are smiling, you feel strong!

This is exactly what I’m talking about. We know our mind plays a big role in our physical health, just think about someone who is often stressed out or depressed, I can guarantee they start to have health problems.

By improving your posture you can improve your health mentally and physically. Start by correcting your neck posture and everything else will start to fall into place.

“My Neck Pain just Keeps Coming Back!"

"Thank Goodness the Pillow Keeps me Pain-Free when I Sleep!”

This can sometimes be the case. Why, you might ask? A couple of reasons: The main one we find is that there is something during the day that is re-triggering the neck discomfort.

For example, I once saw a patient who always watched his television at a 45 degree angle. The couch, actually his recliner I believe, faced 45 degrees from the TV. Basically, when he sat down he always looked 45 degrees to the left. This might not always be a big deal, but if you do this for 2 hours every night after dinner, maybe even conking out there for a bit with your head wrenched to the side, it may become an issue.

He literally re-arranged some furniture and shazzam: his pain stayed away. The pillow was actually improving his neck posture and neck alignment, but he was inadvertently shifting it back out of alignment with his TV watching. Come to find out it wasn’t just after dinner, but a little each morning and sometimes when he came home from work at lunch.

Continuous Pressure On Cervical Nerves Can Lead To Nerve Damage

As you can imagine, if you continue to put pressure on a nerve that nerve can die off. Like a plant, if you continue to pull its roots, or forget to supply it with light or water, it starts to shrink and shrivel up.

The nerves are similar, if we allow the life force to be cut off then eventually it will atrophy. Of course, at this point, pain may become more permanent and other symptoms may start to arise.

The symptoms associated with nerve pressure include pain, tingling and numbness, and weakness.

If spinal alignment is restored and pressure is relieved from the nerves, we can prevent much deterioration from setting in and the body can heal. If left alone, or if medications are simply used to cover up the pain response, symptoms can become permanent.

Remember that posture is a window into your spine; maintaining proper neck posture will ensure your cervical nerves are not compromised.  Correct and maintaining your posture is easy and can be done while you sleep will the cervical linear traction neck pillow.

Poor Neck Posture can Run in the Family …

Spinal alignment can run in your family. If your parents have poor neck posture, you may have a genetic predisposition for that same poor posture.

Remember, posture is directly related to your spinal alignment. If someone presents with forward head posture, their neck spine has often lost some of its normal curvature and shifted forward. This, of course, will put pressure on nerves in the neck, causing neck and muscle pain.

I often see family members who exhibit family postural traits almost exactly. Someone will tell me that their mother often suffers from severe neck discomfort just like they do. And sure enough, they both have the same forward head or low right shoulder and neck shift, etc …

The lesson here: your posture is important and if corrected may fix your neck problems and other neck-related symptoms, like headaches or arm and hand pain and tingling. Your genes are essentially a path laid out for you, but you don’t always have to take that exact path. Your genes are constantly changing, so doing the right things can help create a healthier, pain-free you!

Is It Normal To Move Around A Lot At Night When Sleeping, And Will A Neck Pillow Still Work For Me?

It is completely normal to move around a bit when sleeping. Most people won’t stay in one position all night. What to do with the traction pillow is try to start out at night on your back. Once you get used to this you will sleep in this position for awhile and eventually move or roll over. The “V” part of the pillow will not only give a gentle neck stretch, but will help hold you in this position longer. When your body is ready to move, you will automatically turn and land more on the wing of the pillow on either side.

As long as you get some time on your back during the night, you will help improve your neck posture. So don’t feel like you need to sleep all night on your back, you don’t. In fact, a lot of customers are solely side sleepers. The pillow is good for that too because it keeps the head and neck level. We simply recommend to start out on your back to get some neck tractioning. Just sleeping on this for a short time will help correct neck posture and reduce neck pain.
