Do you Watch TV in Bed? You could be doing Damage to Your Neck

Do You have a TV in the Bedroom?
We recently bought a TV for our bedroom. Its Great ! Its seems that the days go by so fast that I cannot even keep up with the tv shows I watch. Now with the bedroom tv I can get into bed and watch. I can even set up a sleep timer.

Here's the problem...

If i lay in bed to see the TV, i have my head in extreme flexion (chin bent down to the chest). I sleep on my pillow, but to see the TV, i have to use two pillows or lean my pillow against the head board.

There is a another way...

The best thing to do is use the bed wedge. So you actually sit up watching TV. To watch TV and catch a few shows is not worth doing permanent damage to your neck.

The bed wedge allows you to comfortably sit up and watch your programs. Its a great pillow for reading in bed also. Many even lie it down to  use for to elevating the back knee when lying on your back.

What is "Teck-Neck"?

What is Teck-Neck? Or Maybe its Tech-neck? Great Question - Who Knows?

Just Joking! This is just a term that has popped up in recent years due to all the "techies" or "technology geeks". Guess what, we all are a bit techie these days. Everywhere I turn I see an iphone! My mother, who is actually a grandma too, does text messaging... That being said, we all have an opportunity to get "teck-neck" when we're looking down all day texting.

You might say, "I don't text"! But do you use a laptop, do you use a cell phone at all, do you use a tablet? That constant head down posture can lead to strain.

How Do We Know We Got A Good Night's Sleep?

Here are some tell tale signs if you didn't catch the right amount of Zzz's the night before. Just feeling tired in the morning may not be the only one, but here's the list of how you know you are not getting the proper amount of sleep!
  1. You don't "feel" awake and ready-to-go after the morning shower. I say after the morning shower because it does take a few moments to wake up fully. Some of us are used our morning shower or coffee that its often hard to get right into our sneakers and go for a run.
  2. You feel like you are dozing during the day. Even though your project at work may not be the most exciting thing happening on the planet; you shouldn't be itching to put your head down and close your eyes.
  3. You are getting short (moody or irritated with others very easily) When you are tired sometimes you just cannot hold back like normal.
  4. You are making mistakes. Its one thing that you are working on a spreadsheet on your computer but quite another if you are in the car on a busy highway. Studies show that most auto accidents actually occur due to fatigue.
