Do You Breathe Okay At Night?



If you don't breathe well when you sleep, that's what the CPAP Pillow is made for.  You can actually get one of those finger pulse oximeters, and it will tell you your blood oxygen level.  If you've ever seen one of these at the doctor's office, it give your pulse, heart rate, and O2 lvel.  The oxygen level should be 96% and higher.

The Towel Roll For The Neck...

We want to use this towel roll to help get us used to using a neck pillow. This will help prevent soreness from using the neck pillow. The reason you will have soreness is that your neck just isn't used to it. Putting a curve into a neck that may have no curve is a adjustment for the body especially. Someone with some curvature may have a little soreness, whereas someone with a flat neck or a reverse curve may be especially sore.

My Neck Was Sore After A Night Of Sleep On The Traction Pillow

Soreness after the first night on a new neck pillow is normal. That's why we recommend using the pillow gradually. It's even recommend to use the gravity sided gradually first. Now, don't take me the wrong way, you can be sore from using the gravity side also. We have found that this side is slightly easier to get used to than the "V" side. Soreness can actually be a good thing; then we know we're making change. I have a family member who feels like she's getting a neck hump or hunch-back. I told her along with the pillow, to start doing some head retraction exercises. I explained the to her - I don't know if she got it though? At least she's got the traction pillow...

Turmeric - A Big-Time Healer!



The fact that it reduces inflation helps to reduce pain also. Inflammation is one of those things that contribute to many disease processes. So reducing inflammation not only may reduce pain but can help one to stay healthy.

Biomechanically speaking inflammation typically puts pressure on nerves or a particular nerve and causes pain.

Pain is your body telling you there's a problem. One tricky thing however is that we can have pressure on a nerve or nerves in a particular spot that doesn't detect pain. Hence you can have a disease process building and not even know it's there...

As another note, they have found that taking the turmeric with black pepper helps to activate it. Curcumin is the active component in turmeric.

Are Carbonated Beverages Bad For You?...


The reason I thought of this is because I hear there may be some competition between the 'Sodastream' company and 'Green Mountain'.  'Sodastream' is the company who has been doing it and the Keurig machines may soon do it to.

The answer to: "Are Carbonated Beverages Bad For You?" is NO.  You may have heard that they contribute to leaching of calcium and other minerals from the bones; but that's not really true.  Now we know soda definitely isn't good for you.  It's carbonated, but that's not the problem.  It's the very high sugar content.

Now is it good to drink carbonated drinks all the time - I would't... It's like any thing else - drink in moderation.  I would drink flat water most of the time, when you are given the opportunity.

Essential Fatty Acids



Essential Fatty acids are just that "essential". Our bodies don't make them which means we must get them from diet. The two biggies are omega 6 and omega 3. Linoleic acid and alpha-linolenic acid.

Some functions are:
-brain development
-cell wall or membrane formation
-hormone production
-thyroid and adrenal function

If someone is not getting much fat in their diet, like a vegetarian for example, they need to supplement this. Research has shown us that proper EFA'sin the diet are linked to a lower incidence of cardiovascular disease. It is also linked to a lower incidence of Alzheimer's disease.

The Cervical Linear Traction Neck Pillow is Great When on Your Side




As you can imagine, I've tried many pillows. I have yet to find one that compares to the cervical linear traction neck pillow. Not only is it the most comfortable, it's probably the easiest to use.

Just right comfort, not too firm and not to soft, I found it the easiest to transition from back to side.

I started by using the "V"side, now I rotate it 180 degrees and use the "gravity" side.

When I turn it's not only easy but there's actually enough space there too...

The Difference Between Soreness and Pain



What is the difference between being sore and being in pain? Soreness is often a good thing; you are building muscle or stretching out ligaments, etc...

Those are two perfect examples actually. Let's say I do neck traction for too long or too many pounds; I will be sore. The body just isn't used to it and ligaments and/or tendons are being stretched. It'll feel like an ache.

Just like when you go work out or maybe lift weights for the first time in awhile, you may be sore.

That's or main tell-tale sign - what were you doing that precipitated this painlike sensation. If you over-did a workout, or did it for the first time, you are using new muscle groups or at least using one that haven't been worked like that in a while - that's soreness, and is normal. Now if this persists for days and started following a awkward movement it can be pain.
 


My suggestion is to take a break or take it easy on that body part for the next week or until it feels better.

Why Do A lot of People Recommend Warm Water in the Morning?


Well, don't just drink warm water but put a lemon or lime wedge in there too.  Why you may ask?  First off it's a good body detoxifier.

The warm water seems to be preferred by body organs and aids in digestion plus helps get rid of waste. Lemon is also a good detoxifier and then in the body converts it to a base. Remember that alkaline diet...

Next, it stimulates the bodies digestive tract.  This helps digestion and improves nutrient absorption.

It is also said to help weight loss.  Now I can tell you that I've met a few people who really don't enjoy drinking water.  The lemon can give nice flavor to the water and help one get away from using sugar.

It seems to soothe the stomach.  The hot water cleanses the body and the lemon contains elements that reduce stomach acidity.

After a good night's s sleep on my cervical pillow, I wake up and have a glass of warm water.

Some Crazy Things You May Do In Your Sleep!



Who knew that we do anything but sleep, move around a bit, and maybe get up to go to the bathroom. Well, the fact is there are a bunch of things people do while they snooze that you wouldn't believe.

Here they are:

  1. Sleepwalking - I apparently did it once when I was a kid and tried to get out of the house.  Probably good I didn't, but the banging on the door woke everyone up!!!
  2. Talk or Scream - just recently someone I know was telling me they did this and it kinda freaked her and her husband out a bit.  My mother-in-law talks in her sleep; once you're used to it it doesn't really bother you, and she seems fine.
  3. Send text messages.  I think I could imagine some people doing this.  They do it all the time when awake, during sleep too - jeez...
  4. Drive.  This can happen when a sleep-walker makes it out of the house.  Also, be careful with sleep medications too.
  5. There is something called sleep sex or sexsomnia - Having sex while awake is probably better?
  6. Prepare and Eat Food
  7. Act Out Their Dreams - I'll never forget the story my grandfather told when my uncle was a kid.  My uncle thought he was in a base ball game and my grandfather played along with him.  "You hit a homer- run the bases".  Then he would put my uncle back to sleep.  No harm, no foul - no pun intended.

So why does this happen?  I think we need to examine what we are eating, taking, and our sleep patterns. After that I would use the traction pillow.  Having good neck alignment and a good night's sleep fixes a lot...

Wow, Who Knew Coconut Oil Was So Good For You...



That's right there are so many benefits.  Not only is it great to cook with, it smells nice, and tastes good.  I actually use it when cooking popcorn, it has a higher burn temperature and works great.  I've also been using it for an occasional massages - it's actually helped get rid of scars, and darkens my hair!

Besides these superficial things, it's been shown to reduce some cancer and improve your heart as well as digestion.  I'm sure there are other benefits too!

What Am I Looking At On My XRay?

So you can see on the abnormal versus the normal, the AP view shows the spine is not straight up and down like it should be. On the lateral picture we should have a smooth flowing elliptical curve (that's like the curve of an oval vs. a circle). we also will see defined edges on the normal picture instead of jagged edges or bone spurring as on the abnormal. We also will see clear and fairly even throughout disc spaces on a normal lumbar xray. Do you see the clear differences in the normal and abnormal picture? Neck Pain In The Car...

Have you ever noticed how taxi drivers very still. I have a family member who is driver and I must say he always seems so relaxed and in control behind the wheel. They don't even flinch. Whereas I'm turning my head, my body, even both to look here, there, blind spots, you name it.

I guess if you're a driver and you move around a lot, there's a greater chance you can throw something out of whack. More alarming is having a horrible posture that you do everyday in the car; your body will start to conform to that posture. You know, that posture where you have a low right shoulder, that arm on the gear shift, and the left shoulder high with that arm up on the steering wheel.

Coffee Prevents Liver Cancer

Researchers in Italy discovered that coffee consumption appears to cut cancer risk by 40% and three cups per day may reduce it by 50%. Let me just say that coffee has always been a good thing, no matter what anyone says, packed with antioxidants, it does much more good than harm...

When I Gave Up Sugar...

A Study showed us that sugar is more addictive than cocaine and morphine. That's a bit scary, but if you think about the people you know who need their sugar fix.

Sugar is Involved in almost most disease processes, in fact cancer feeds on it. 
What about Diabetes? You can end type II by stopping sugar. Of course it's so addicting, many can't do that, they just take the medication.
 I myself stopped it in coffee so long ago I can't even remember when, nor do I like it in my morning cup.
Feel like you need that sugary snack; have a natural sugar or something else.  Maybe cheese, cold cuts, peanuts, carrots, celery...  
You probably weren't aware that we didn't normally have sweet dessert until well into 1600s...
