What Am I Looking At On My XRay?

Lumbar XRay Normal -

Lumbar XRays Abnormal -

So you can see on the abnormal versus the normal, the AP view shows the spine is not straight up and down like it should be. On the lateral picture we should have a smooth flowing elliptical curve (that's like the curve of an oval vs. a circle). we also will see defined edges on the normal picture instead of jagged edges or bone spurring as on the abnormal. We also will see clear and fairly even throughout disc spaces on a normal lumbar xray. Do you see the clear differences in the normal and abnormal picture? Medium or Large Pillow? Regular or Extra Firm Level of Support? How do I Choose?

The Arc4life Cervical Linear Traction Neck Pillow now comes in medium and large. It also comes in Regular and Extra Firm Levels of Support. First, here is a short demonstration from Dr Bellinger on how to use the arc4life cervical linear traction neck pillow.

2 Factors to Keep in mind: You must get the right size of pillow and also the right support level.

Two sizes are available: Medium (24"x17") or Large (28"x17"). Don't order the medium or large based on the size of your mattress. Read our blog post related to this topic here:

Which Arc4life Traction Neck Pillow Should I Order, Medium or Large?

Two Levels of Support are available: Regular or Extra Firm
This is a more of a personal decision. For most patients, ordering the regular support pillow is the best. The arc4life traction pillow is not firm like a foam pillow, but its not soft like a feather pillow either. It's in between. The Extra firm versions of the arc4life pillow have about 25% more fiber put inside the pillows, making for a pillow that has less give. Will these pillows last longer? Yes.

Will they be more comfortable? That is entirely up to you. If you like a firmer pillow, then order the extra firm traction pillow. If you like something on the softer side, order the regular traction pillow.

The New Arc4life Neck Pillow: Extra Neck Support for those who like a firmer pillow

At Arc4life.com, we are constantly adding new products, new product descriptions, patient testimonials and more information that can help you make the right decision about pain relief.

Recently we added a new version of the arc4life cervical traction neck pillow. It is not yet available on www.arc4life.com, but is available on our sister site: The Neck Pain Relief Shop. It will be available on www.arc4life.com in a few months.

More Support and More Traction with this
Special Arc4life Pillow
Over the years, we have received many requests for a firmer traction pillow. Well the Extra Firm Cervical Linear Traction neck pillow is now available:  it has about 25% more fiber fill than the regular traction pillow. It is still the same size: 20" x 26" still considered a standard size. However, this pillow offers more support, and is firmer.

Also of note, this is a special order item for Arc4life. We don't make these pillows everyday. This pillow involves more labor, and more material. The shipping on the pillow will take longer, and the usual return policy that applies to our other pillows does not apply to the extra firm pillow.

We have hesitated over the years to make a firmer pillow because for most patients this can be very uncomfortable to use. Especially, when one suffers from a herniated or bulging disc. However, some people want that extra support, and extra traction; we know because it has been requested on a number of occasions by our established customers. Incidentally, one advantage with the extra firm pillow is that it will last longer, because naturally there is more fiber in the pillow: it is more dense, and will break down less than the regular pillow.

The Pillow Dust Cover Will Preserve You Neck Pillow...

In this video I show you the arc4life traction pillow with the special dust cover. This dust cover will help preserve your pillow because you can simply unzip it and toss it in the was. You can also hand wash and dry your pillow. You don't want to overdo this however as this can start to break down the pillow fibers prematurely.

Neck Muscle Spasm: How it Happens and How to Get Rid of Them

Most often what happens is some kind of injury to the neck. Now, this can be a serious injury like a car accident whiplash, but it can be a much less traumatic neck strain from moving too quick or the wrong way.

Here’s an example: I was reaching for something in the cabinet above my fridge. Instead of getting a step stool I was reaching and turning my neck … wham, it hit me, a sharp spasm of pain in the side of my neck.

Thank goodness I have the tools and know-how to fix this problem. Using my traction pillow is one of the biggest things that helps, but even before doing that, I recommend a few other to-do’s to cure the neck spasms.

The first thing I did was warm up my hot pack to put on that side of my neck. I may also let the how shower soak on my neck when I shower. I was lucky enough that my wife was home and gave me a little neck massage with Biofreeze. Lastly, I rotated my pillow to the traction side; I use the linear gravity support side often, but when I do something to my neck or want to do some gentle traction, I use the neck traction side. Having the know-how and tools to correct neck spasms and neck pain will save you a lot of trouble down the road.

Make Your Neck Exercises Habit!

So often after asking a patient how they have been doing with their home stretches and exercises, they reply: “Oh yeah, I haven’t been doing them as much as I’m supposed to.”

One of the problems is this- he or she gets out of pain and tends to forget about doing them. The exercises, stretches, or our traction neck pillow may get you out of pain quickly, but that doesn’t mean you should stop using them. To really make change in the spine more permanent you need to continue with all of these things. If someone comes to see me that’s had neck pain or back pain for one year, the research shows it could take one year to get out of that pain and correct the problem. It depends on the severity and length of time the problem has been going on.

Once one relieves their neck pain they can cut back on their neck exercises, but still do them once in awhile. One of the reasons is that there are constant stressors on our neck- working at a computer all day, general stress, gravity …

One of the best ways to remember your neck stretches or exercises is to make it part of your daily routine, or habit! For example, do them every morning after you get out of the shower, do them in the shower, do them at work before your day gets going …

If you do them regularly they start to become habit. So even after you get out of pain, it’s a good idea to do some simple stretches and exercises to prevent future injury. It will only take a couple of minutes and is very important for your health. Don’t neglect your body, or it starts neglecting you!
