Travel Pillow vs. Neck Pillow
What is the difference between a travel pillow and a neck pillow. Technically a "travel pillow" is a U-shaped pillow that you use on a plane, bus, car, or train. It's more for sitting up sleeping. Where as a true neck pillow is for normal sleeping - that's laying down. It will have a neck roll to maintain the neck curve; it will also keep the spine level when you're on you side.
The travel pillows are really needed in the plane, not only because sleeping really helps pass the time but those plane seats tend to push the head forward. You almost really feel like you need that neck roll for your neck pillow at night to restore your posture.

I Have To Sleep Upright?
What do you suggest for my neck? I've seen a couple people who've Had to sleep with their head upright, whether it's to help an ear issue, heart burn problem, dizziness, etc...
The best thing I've found is to use a travel pillow around the neck when sitting on a couch or chair. A recliner is the best because you can tilt back slightly. The travel pillow I'm referring to is a u- shaped pillow.
I know you've seen them at the airport or on the plane. Someone traveling on the plane is basically sitting upright or with a slight incline. That's where these pillows have become most popular. You can buy one last minute at the airport, but I would get it here. I see people all the time with them attached to their luggage, carry-on- or belt...

A great pillow for neck support AND travel
Everyday we have satisfied customers to really enjoy our pillows and pain relief products. When someone does find the right pillow specifically, the next question is "I need a pillow for travel, what do you have?" Unfortunately, your choices are limited when it comes to travel pillows. Yes you can get the U Shaped kind, but i am talking about one that you can sleep with. Not the too soft or too hard pillows you will find your hotel.
I do remember a while back, the Ritz Carlton called and requested 12 of our cervical traction neck pillows. One of their guests must have special requested this pillow before they arrived. I chuckled to myself as I filled this particular order.
Other customers who have second homes have us simply ship their favorite pillow to their house- with special instructions to make sure it arrives safely. We have been shipping pillows since 2003, so we do have many repeat customers. Once people get used to sleeping on a special pillow, they want to make sure they continue to sleep soundly.
But when it comes to getting a pillow that you can travel with, I would recommend the arc4life linear gravity pillow, the small size. The dimensions of this pillow are 23"x17". It has two neck rolls on it (one firm, one soft), that will ensure proper alignment of the neck. Yes, it does fit into a small suit case. If you have one of those vacuum sealers, it will work for this pillow too.

“Great, I’m on Vacation and my Neck Pain is Acting Up!”
You don’t want this to happen to you. I can tell you from experience however that this happens all too often. You may not be on vacation, but traveling away from home for work. The bottom line is you are away from home with a different pillow, bed, and surroundings than what you’re used to.
Two things I recommend when you travel are a travel pillow and the Trac-Collar. Actually, three things because there are two kinds of neck travel pillows. One is a U-shaped pillow. These are great in a car or on a plane to keep your neck in good position. The other is a travel pillow that’s simply the smaller version of a standard sized pillow. This helps because it keeps the neck in alignment when you sleep. The Trac-Collar helps relieve immediate pain by stretching the spine out, opening up the nerve holes, and relaxing the spine. It’s super light and even has a small travel case. Literally buckle it around the neck and pump it up.
These are just a few things that I highly recommend for traveling neck pain sufferers. There are many other things also, like Biofreeze, Formula 303, hot packs, other spinal supports, you name it. These are the 3 most common that have been a big success to avoid neck pain while traveling.

The Difference Between a Travel Pillow and a Neck Pillow

Often people call a travel pillow by the name neck pillow, however it’s not correct. A neck pillow is a pillow for sleeping that helps relieve pain and improve spinal posture by having a built-in neck roll that supports your neck. They are often called support pillows or orthopedic pillows. They help maintain the correct curvature in your spine on your back and keep the spine in alignment when on your side.
A travel pillow is a U-shaped pillow that you can use for neck support when on a plane, traveling by bus, or a car. You can call it a travel neck pillow, but calling a travel pillow a neck pillow or calling a neck pillow a travel pillow is not technically correct.
So to make sure you don’t make a mistake when trying to find, order, or recommend one of these, you now will know what a true neck pillow is versus a travel pillow.

A Travel Neck Pillow for the AirPlane and Airport

No one wants to have neck pain just from travelling during the holidays. It has been reported that 20% of travelers injure their back or neck in the whole travelling process. A large percentage of those report having a sore neck after being in uncomfortable positions while seated. If you are travelling during the holiday season by air plane, then you will definitely be spending some time in the airport waiting area and then sitting on an airplane. Most likely in the seated position. Trying to get some sleep in a sitting position can be difficult. There are special travel pillows that are u shaped that made especially for going around your neck in any position. They will ensure that your head and neck are aligned properly. It is very easy to have your neck flopping from side to side in a awkward position. These travel pillows can be made out of fiber or foam depending on your preference.

There is also a special neck pillow designed for people who suffer from headaches, call the Headache Ice Pillow- it uses the combination of ice (with a gel pack) and proper support for the neck to decrease inflammation and tension in the muscles of the neck.
Travel pillows will ensure that you arrive well rested and refreshed, no matter where your destination.

Travel Neck Pillow- The Key to sitting at the Airport
Recently, one of my good friends was coming back from a wedding in Chicago. Well lo and behold, his airplane got delayed because of thunderstorms in the NorthEast. He spent a whopping 10 long hours in the Chicago Airport- 3 of those hours were stuck on the airplane. I cannot even imagine what he went through. He was tired, grumpy and stressed when he finally got back home. It made me think about how to prepare for the far away trip that sometimes never seems to end. Having a comfortable travel neck pillow can make a big difference.
A good travel neck pillow is often shaped in the form of a "U". It is lightweight, supportive, easy to travel with and comfortable around your neck. Often times, a travel neck pillow can be composed of a foam, polyester fiber or gel like material. You don't want your travel pillow to be too soft because it will not give you the proper cervical support. Sitting in an airport is not like lounging around in your family room. You are sometimes awkwardly seated in between two people and you have to the make the most of your surroundings. A good travel pillow will keep your head and neck firmly supported, preventing them from unnecessarily moving side-to-side, bending back, or flopping off whenever you doze off to sleep.
Aside from using your travel pillow for travel, this special u shaped neck pillow can also be used if you have some type of a cosmetic procedure and you need to be seated so that your body can heal. For example: eye lid surgery, face lift, nose surgery, liposuction...you get the idea.
U shaped Memory Travel Neck Pillow.
There are many other types of Travel neck pillows available- ones created just for headache sufferers that include a cold gel pack, buckwheat ones, fiber ones, etc. Check out Arc4life's Travel Neck Pillows for more selection. Until next post, hope everyone has a comfortable journey next time they are waiting at the airport. - N.J.
