Can my Neck being off Contribute to my Cold?

Misalignment's in the Spine Create
Pressure Elsewhere in the Body
Short answer is Yes.  For your body to work 100%, you need to have good alignment.  If your neck hurts or you have a neck muscle strain it won't.  This tells me you may have a misaligned neck.

Misalignment's mean pressure on nerves.  Pressure there means that the body doesn't work at it's best.  All communication comes from the brain down.  Any interference whatsoever means a decrease in the body's function and your health.

Also, keep in mind there are nerves that go to the nose and sinuses, etc... Things you especially need working when recouping from a cold.

Get that neck back in alignment to start your healing process!

I Had Surgery in My neck, but it Still Hurts?

This is a tough one. Any time you do a surgery, and you mess with Mother Nature, there's a chance for irreversible damage. Don't get me wrong, you may do very well and you did it at the time, because it was your last option.

It just so happens that I have a pillow that has helped a lot of after surgery people. It's the traction "V" pillow. Reason is that the "v" does such a gentle traction that won't harm anything. So that really functions to hold you in place.

It's a soft pillow, made of fiber. This is unlike foam or memory foam which tends to be very firm. You can sleep on your back or side and you can even rotate it to sleep on the linear gravity side. This side is a little softer and is just a neck roll with no "v".

A look at Neck Range of Motion...

Our necks are built to flex, extend, rotate, and tilt to the side. Or, of course any combination of these. Here's the normal ROM (range of motion) in degrees:
  • Flexion 60 degrees
  • Extension 40 degrees
  • Rotation (turning) 90 degrees
  • Lateral bending (tilt) 45 degrees
If any of these are decreased we may have an issue. If it's not the same form side to side that can tip us off. The spine can be restricted or misaligned cause muscle imbalances and therefore a loss of that range. One may also have neck pain, upper back pain, or even shoulder pain.

Using the right neck pillow can help put your neck in alignment, balance the musculature, and ease pressure off the nerves.

Will you get neck soreness at first, from a neck pillow?

Arc4life's Natural Alignment Neck Pillow
For some, neck soreness will happen. This happens especially if you have never used a neck pillow. It's going to be a change, so you have to get used to it. Now, also if you have a major misalignment in the neck, the neck pillow may be tougher to get used to. Let's say you have a cervical kyphosis, that a reversal of the normal c-curve.

Also, things depend on the actual pillow. Let's say you have a really hard or firm pillow, this might be too much for a first time neck pillow user. That being said your memory foam pillows tend to be firm so you may want to start out with something softer. On the other end of the spectrum is the feather or down pillow, these are usually too soft, giving not enough support.

That's why I typically recommend a fiber pillow. This is usually not to hard or soft and still gives the support.

The Picture above is an example of a fiber pillow I recommend: the Arc4life Natural Alignment Pillow.

Don't Forget To Choose Pillow size...

Happy New Year From Arc 4 Life- Sorry for the delay in posting. its already started to be a busy 2014- we have multiple things cooking away here at Arc4life.

Pillow size for the Cervical Linear Traction Neck Pillow is very important. Frankly its important for any pillow that you buy.   The traction pillow is not like any other pillow. You want to get the size that fits your body, not the bed. So just because you have a king size bed doesn't mean you need a king size pillow. The traction pillow is based on body size.

Most people will fit the regular size or, in other words, medium size pillow. We recommend if someone is 6"1' or over get the large (king size).

"Ok, what if I'm 6 foot and a bit over?" Here's deal: if your fairly close to 6' - 6"1' and maybe you have a long neck go with the large. The opposite holds true if you feel you have a short neck or are very petite. Now, you have the pillow. If you feel like your head is being pushed upward or the pillow seems to be flexing the head forward, the pillow might be too big. If you don't feel like you have enough support, it's most likely too small.

Contact Arc 4 Life Directly if you have questions about Pillow Sizes. They are very used to answering questions about this topic !

Do I have a Disc Problem in the Neck? And what can I do to get neck pain relief?

The arc4life cervical linear traction neck pillow
Do yo have radiating pain? Do you have other symptoms like numbness and tingling in the fingers? Do you have severe neck pain? Does it hurt when you cough or sneeze?

If you do, you may have disc pain. But...Even it's a strain I would still recommend the Cervical Traction Pillow!

The "V" actually holds neck fairly stationary which we have found to be very helpful in a patient with disc problems.

Opening up the disc spaces with a little neck traction can help relieve symptoms too...

Mobility is Key!

You'll notice my title: "Mobility is Key". What I'm trying to say is that motion of your spine is essential. You may have also heard "motion is life".

This is because our spine is designed to move. It is when it doesn't move when we run into problems. You see, lack of motion or restrictions in the spine means pressure on nerves; this equates to pain...So when inflammation builds we get problems. When things move like they should, nutrients get into cells and when things are immobile they don't. Also, inflammation builds, which bis unable to dissipate without motion. This is what really puts pressure on nerves.

We often may think "bone on nerve" because it's so easy to understand; but that's not really what happens. Inflammation builds and puts pressure on nerves.

As a Chiropractor, not only can I restore motion or mobility to an area but I can put things in the right spot too. Over time, if we can not only get motion back but align things as good as possible, painful occurrences are less!
